Often described as "Aaliyah meets The Weeknd" with her moody, smooth vocals and minimalistic and evocative RnB style is Nylo, a Chicago-born singer/songwriter. But if you asked Nylo to describe her own sound she'd probably say she makes "music that sounds like snow."
Armed with sparse 808's and a delicate falsetto depicting confessions of a young woman, Nylo, who started writing poems and songs at a young age, writes with an emotional rawness and a level of musicality beyond her years. As someone who is admittedly obsessed with rap, classical, and Radiohead, the influences of all three seemingly disparate musical styles are discernable in her music.
Today, Nylo is excited to share the video for "Fool Me Once," the first single from her upcoming mixtape, Indigo Summer. The video, which was filmed on a cold winter night in her hometown of Chicago, showcases a dreamlike sequence that follows Nylo's realization that what was once a passionate love affair has turned into something else. Like her sound, the visuals are as fragile as they are gorgeous.
Even in a musical environment that brings the listener to a futuristic point, where the R&B singer-songwriter is inexorably interwoven with digital production, Chicago's Nylo is begging to "Take It Back." Even though she recognizes the futility of her wish, she cannot help but want to return to a time when things were still simple.
The next few weeks are bright for Nylo as she prepares to release her upcoming project Indigo Summer, which will come out on July 16th. Yet, the dark complexity will remain at the core of her musical expression-as she said, "I just want to make sure that I stay in a position that I can be honest with myself as an artist. Stay inspired, and stay making music that I believe in."

"Decatur, GA" Rapper "Jarren Benton"
Ft. "SwizZz" & "Hopsin"
"Go Off" (Official Video)
"Bully" Ft "Vinnie Paz"
Off "My Grandma's Basement"
The track, produced by M16, is a dark, thumping affair that builds furiously from verse to chorus, and the three rappers attack the beat with ferocity, starting with Jarren's rapid-fire opening verse, as he attacks haters and doubters and celebrates being different and the success of the tight-knit label. "You couldn't fathom my pain," raps Jarren in the track's refrain. "I hated being me, I was mad at my brain/ All the hope that I felt made me sad and insane/ Look back, like God, I was glad I felt strange."
The video, which was directed by Hopsin and filmed by George Orozco of On Point Films, is staking claim as one of the most original, entertaining videos of the year, with raucous performance shots of Jarren, SwizZz, and Hopsin interspersed with some wild shots of Jarren and Hopsin - both of whom are dressed in white-face; Hopsin is dressed like a woman - acting a fool in the local trailer park.

"Chicago" Rapper "Jahzel"
Off "In God's Image" Drop'n July 2nd
Over the past months, Chicago, with the dominance of its Drill scene and the emergence of artists like Chance The Rapper and the recently disbanded Kids These Days, has proven to be one of the most talented, diverse hotbeds for hip-hop music. Jahzel, who hails from the north side of the city, fits snuggly in the middle of these two scenes, delivering music that balances soulfully tangible songwriting with trunk-rattling production. That sounds is on display throughout Jahzel's forthcoming album, In God's Image, which will be released on July 2nd, and which Jahzel announced earlier this month accompanied by the release of a video for the album's title track. Today DJ Booth is premiering the latest single from the project, "Chapters."
With "Chapters," a track produced by Tone P, who produced a number of tracks on In God's Image and has also worked closely with Wale, Jahzel opens up about the realities of pursuing a career in rap. "Saw me on ya tv but it ain't what it appears to be," raps Jahzel on the track. "Sensitive about my raps I deal with insecurities/ Promise I be yelling but its like nobody's hearing me/ Always had the drive, Lord I just pray you're steering me." Explaining the lyric, Jahzel says, "I was trying to convey that despite whatever perception may be about a music career, especially a rap career, its been an extremely tough journey filled with ups and down; never easy."
It's no secret that Chicago is one of the epicenters of youth culture right now. While Drill music represents one element of the vibrant Chi-town scene, Jahzel, a native of the North Side/Uptown section of the city, balances soulfully tangible songwriting with trunk-rattling production. Though young, Jahzel boasts a track record that includes ghostwriting Top 40 hits for internationally renowned acts, a debut mixtape that featured platinum producer and friend KE, Lil B, and JBar from Soulja Boy's SODMG, and features with Datpiff, Fake Shore Drive, Thisis50, MTV2, and MTV's Suckerfree Sunday. Now putting the last touches his final free mixtape release, In God's Image, Jahzel looks to raise the stakes yet again. The project will feature extensive production from Maybach Music Group/Wale producer Tone P, a Chicago-heavy feature list that includes Noelz Vedere, Mathien, A-Cross, Meagan McNeal, and Whitney Rene, and a plethora of videos for his most refined offering to date. In God's Image will be released on July 2nd, 2013 via The Black Key Collective.
Born and raised in Chicago, Illinois during a time of increased social unrest, violence, and economic struggle, Jahzel has had to overcome many challenges. With his amazing ability to authentically articulate emotion and complex experiences of people from different backgrounds and upbringings via songwriting, he's swiftly made a name for himself in the music industry by ghostwriting Billboard-charting Top 40 hits by international artists. With his solo career as a rapper, his willingness to share candid memories allows his fans to relate and understand him not only as an artist, but also as a human. His debut mixtape First Class boasts heavy production from platinum producer and friend KE on the track, as well as features from Lil B and SODMG's JBar. Jahzel followed that project with an even more, wildly successful mixtape titled Jet Lag. Jet Lag garnered press hits from notable press outlets including but not limited to Datpiff, Fake Shore Drive, Thisis50, MTV2, and MTV's Suckerfree Sunday. Jahzel's latest album, In God's Image, will be released on June 3rd, 2013.
"California" Six-Person Production "SuperGroup"
"Beam" (Jabbawockeez) Instrumental
Off "PRiSM" Drop'n June 25th
The Bangerz, a six-person production supergroup of Goldenchyld, Replay, Nick Ngo, Cutso, Squareweezy, and G-Wrex have evolved over time, but their roots are in Northern California where the crew met as DJs in high school. They quickly made a name for themselves, winning multiple turntablist competitions and crossed paths with then unknown dance crew, the Jabbawockeez. Before long, the Jabbawockeez were turning to the Bangerz to create all their original music - something that was almost unheard of in 2003 - and kept them close while they went on to win MTV's America's Best Dance Crew and set up their first Vegas show. Mus.i.C, the sin-city score to that Vegas show was produced entirely by the Bangerz and charted right behind Daft Punk's Tron on iTunes upon its release.
Combining DJ skill with slick production that spans multiple genres from house, trance and dubstep to hip-hop, pop and R&B, their innovative approach to their material has served The Bangerz well, propelling them to numerous career highlights collectively and individually, including group member Replay producing tracks for Diplo, Kelis and Chris Brown. Individually, the Bangerz have made their name as dancefloor conductors for years. Members have performed with Afrika Bambaataa, the Clipse, WuTang's Raekwon and Ghostface Killah, Kid Koala, shared tour routes with Z-Trip, and played alongside Major Lazer and Odd Future at festivals like New Orleans' Voodoo Fest. But with the growing popularity of melting-pot electronica where 808s and hard synths reign supreme, The Bangerz have once again found their expertise ready to shine. In the past year, the group was solicited by the director of Project X to produce a track for their anything-goes party soundtrack, and are currently preparing to release their next album, also the score to the second Jabbawockeez Vegas show, entitled PRiSM, due out June 25.
"Detroit" Rapper "Chuck Inglish"
The inspiration for Droptops came to Chuck during SXSW. Says Chuck, "While in Austin, my homie who has a dope droptop Bonneville drove us around to my showcases and the idea for the tape came to me on the way to The Illmore. Shout-outs to Sascha, Scoremore, and Illroots. When I got back to LA, I mixed it with the vibes I've been working on over the past year and this EP is a reflection of that whole process." Full production credits for all nine songs go to Chuck himself and the guest features include Asher Roth, Travi$ Scott, Aston Matthews, Buddy, and more. The follow-up to Droptops will be Chuck's album Convertibles due out late this summer via his Sounds Like Fun record label in conjunction with Federal Prism's "Lecord Rabel" imprint.
"Long Beach" Rapper "Joey Fatts"
"Picture Me Rollin"
Clocking in at 15 tracks, the mixtape brings Fatts' hometown of Long Beach and the plights of inner city gangbanging to the forefront. Often regarded as a sister city to Los Angeles, Long Beach has its own strong sense of identity and culture that Fattts is proud to put on display on Chipper Jones Vol. 2. Says Fatts, "Long Beach taught how to hustle at a young age and it has directly influenced my music." On the track "Die Today," Fatts reflects on when his big brother Big Fatts, who acted as a father figure for most of his adolescent life, got arrested two days before his 10th birthday. On the track, "Live Blasphemous," Fatts trades verses with Action Bronson about the hardships of growing up with his mother not being able to pay bills and other commonplace struggles that youth experience growing up in inner cities. Says Fatts, "Truthfully, I'm just trying to put Long Beach back on the map. I want to spread awareness in the gangbanging epidemic that's taking place in our inner city youth not just in LA but also in Long Beach. I'm also just trying to keep the tradition going with West Coast gangsta rap in the vien of Snoop, Spice 1, and Tupac."
Despite being fresh on the scene, Joey Fatts, has carved out a respectable lane for himself in a remarkably short amount of time. His production credits include "Jodye" from A$AP Rocky's Long.Live.A$AP album, "Brick Flair" from A$ton Matthew's Versace Rags album, "Hit Em Up" for ScHoolboy Q's track on Funk Flex's recent mixtape, and more. And as a rapper with a knack for penning heartfelt street anthems, Fatts has built a reputation as a rising star who is as talented as he is diverse. He is currently on tour in Europe with A$AP Rocky.
